Shaibu At 48: Obaseki Hosts Deputy To Surprise Birthday Golf Tournament

[dropcap]G[/dropcap]overnor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, on Friday hosted his deputy, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, to a surprise birthday golf tournament at the Benin Club Golf course in Benin City.

Obaseki said he was happy to join in celebrating his deputy’s achievements, friendship and loyalty and wished him well in his new age.

He prayed for God to guide Rt. Hon. Shaibu through his desires, goals and all he has set his mind to accomplish in his new age. “For us it is about good health and happiness and making sure one accomplishes God’s purpose in one’s life,” the governor said.

The governor said golf is a game of life because it tests one’s endurance, fitness and ability to face life’s challenges. He added that the game is not for the rich as erroneously perceived by many people.

“In America and other parts of the world the game of golf is played by all irrespective of their financial status; it is not meant for the rich alone. Golf requires a lot of mental participation.”

In his response, a visibly elated Shaibu expressed his delight at the surprise golf tournament and the goodwill messages he has received from people on his birthday and thanked God for his mercy.

“My birthday coincides with the International World AIDS Day. For me, today is a day to remind people to take care of their health and show love to those living with the disease to enable them live a more fulfilled life knowing that they are loved,” Shaibu said.

He wished the Muslim faithful a happy Eid-El-Maulud celebration and called on all to pray for the unity of the country.
