Speaker Dissolves Edo 5th Assembly

The Edo 5th Assembly, was on Wednesday dissolved by its Speaker, Mr Uyi Igbe.

The legislature, which started in 2011, was dissolved, after a valedictory sitting of the House in Benin
“The 5th Assembly of the Edo House of Assembly, which was inaugurated on June 6, 2011, having completed four years, hereby stands dissolved”.

“I want to appreciate my colleagues and my party for the support, I have learnt what made our great state unique
This will be the last time I will preside over the house ad the speaker, l have more understanding of takes to run the house of assembly. You have affected my life positively,”.The speaker said.

Igbe who scored the 5th Assembly very high in terms of performance, attributed the success of the assembly to the grace of God, dedication and cooperation of members.

According to the speaker, I am thankful to God for being the first speaker to complete a four year term without impeachment. The feat was achieved because I demystified the office of the speaker.

Igbe noted that the house sat for 746 days and passed 30 bills and 152 resolutions from 2011 to date.
The Majority leader, Philip Shaibu APC Etsako West commended the speaker for his leadership qualities and for being a detribalised leader.

“This is a time to reflect on the past, it is unfortunate that some lawmakers were misled along the way and they are not here today to end the 5th assembly assembly with us.

“I want to remember one of our colleague, Mr Peter Aliyu who died during the 5th assembly, may his rest in peace.
“I want to say that I forgive those leaders who sponsored thugs to destroy the legislative quarter and made an attempt on our lives,”he said.

The majority leader thanked the media for promoting unity in the country.

According to him, it was a rare privilege and honour to serve my constituency in the 5th assembly.

Other lawmakers who spoke during the session thanked their constituents for the mandate to serve.

Mr Kingsley Ehigiamusor and Emmanel Okodowa members representing PDP Iguebenand Esan North East 11repectively before the dissolution the house defected from the people Democratic Party PDP to the All Progressive Congress APC.(The Nigerian Observer)
